Offense of the Word #2    7-18-10

In school I could remember always having bad self esteem because of the labels placed over my life. In this particular piece Im trying to illustrate the offense that baby christians feel when people of the world label them. We see so many kids who enter college, and in their first year become atheist (me included). Perhaps this is because we do not have a full understanding of who we are in GOD. We know we are doing right but we don’t know why.

The word says in 1 peter 3: 15 “but in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord…” meaning, if we, whom have “reserved” ourselves for GOD get ridiculed by those whom are still bound to the world, it simply shouldn’t matter. We whom have “reserved” ourselves for GOD are “aliens and strangers in the world”(1 peter 2:11). Perhaps we are “teacher’s pets” because we honor authority. Perhaps we are “nerds” because God’s word tells us to be in excellence. Perhaps we are “goody two shoes” because we know its necessary to follow God’s commands and to be obedient to Him. The world may call it “sucking up” but I call it honor. The world may call it “fun” but I call it dying. The world may say “you’re too nice” but i say i’m just exuding true love.

In John 15:19-21 it says: “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. ” So let us be not ashamed or offended of these labels but be proud because even unbelievers recognize that we act like our Father. It’s definitely a good thing.
